Brainspotting Intensives with Dr. B: Dedicated Time and Space for Deeper Emotional Processing

The Conversation Location, PLLC | Specialized Trauma-Informed Therapy
Sometimes, a traditional 50- or 60-minute therapy appointment does not provide enough uninterrupted time to explore difficult experiences, work through emotional responses, and transition comfortably back into daily life.
For individuals who want a more concentrated therapeutic experience, Brainspotting Intensives offer an alternative to conventional weekly counseling.
At The Conversation Location, PLLC, we aim to provide a compassionate, individualized approach to emotional healing. Our proposed Brainspotting Intensive program creates dedicated time for focused therapeutic work, with careful preparation, extended processing sessions, and follow-up support.
What Is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a therapeutic approach developed by psychologist Dr. David Grand in 2003. It uses specific positions in a person's visual field, together with awareness of emotional and physical experiences, to guide focused therapeutic processing.
The approach is based on the idea that where we look may influence how we experience and process emotionally significant material.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, which often emphasizes discussing experiences and examining thoughts, Brainspotting also invites clients to notice sensations, emotions, memories, and internal responses as they arise.
You do not necessarily have to explain every detail of a painful experience to participate.
Brainspotting may be incorporated into treatment for trauma-related concerns, anxiety, emotional distress, and performance-related challenges. However, research on its effectiveness is still developing, and individual outcomes vary.
What Is a Brainspotting Intensive?
A Brainspotting Intensive is an extended therapeutic experience that allows clients to engage in focused processing over several hours or across multiple days.
Rather than beginning and ending the work within a conventional weekly appointment, an intensive provides additional time for preparation, processing, breaks, reflection, and integration.

An intensive is not about forcing emotional breakthroughs or processing as much trauma as possible in one sitting.
Instead, the emphasis is on creating a structured and supportive environment where the therapeutic process can unfold at a pace appropriate to the individual.
Who Might Benefit From a Brainspotting Intensive?
Brainspotting Intensives may be worth exploring for individuals who:
Have experienced distressing or traumatic events.
Feel emotionally stuck despite previous therapeutic work.
Experience anxiety, persistent stress, or trauma-related triggers.
Have difficulty finding sufficient time for consistent weekly appointments.
Want to focus on a particular experience, emotional pattern, or therapeutic goal.
Are interested in exploring performance anxiety, confidence, or emotional barriers.
Already participate in individual therapy and would benefit from a focused adjunctive experience.
An intensive is not necessarily appropriate for everyone. Individuals experiencing significant instability, acute safety concerns, or symptoms requiring more continuous treatment may benefit from a different level or format of care.
Clinical suitability is determined through an individualized assessment.
What Does a Brainspotting Intensive Include?
At The Conversation Location, we organize our Brainspotting Intensive experience into four key components.
Part 1: Assessment and Preparation
90-minute pre-intensive appointment
Before beginning intensive processing, we take time to understand your needs, treatment history, and goals.
During this appointment, we may explore your current symptoms, relevant experiences, emotional regulation strategies, available supports, and expectations for treatment.
We also discuss what Brainspotting involves, answer questions, review informed consent, and determine whether the intensive format is appropriate.
This preparation helps us develop a personalized treatment plan rather than approaching every client with the same structure.
Part 2: Personalized Intensive Planning
Together, we identify a manageable focus for the intensive.
This might involve a particular distressing memory, recurring emotional response, negative belief, relationship pattern, or performance-related concern.
We also develop a plan for pacing, breaks, grounding, and responding to emotional activation.
The intention is to establish a clear therapeutic direction while allowing flexibility for what emerges during treatment.
Part 3: Extended Brainspotting Sessions
Three-hour processing blocks
During the intensive, your clinician guides you through Brainspotting using appropriate visual positioning, focused awareness, and therapeutic attunement.
You may notice changes in emotions, body sensations, memories, or internal experiences.
Some clients process quietly, while others find it helpful to discuss what they are experiencing.
Breaks and grounding are incorporated as clinically appropriate.
Your clinician monitors your responses throughout the process and adjusts the pace according to your needs.
You remain an active participant in deciding when to continue, pause, or stop.
Part 4: Integration and Follow-Up
60-minute post-intensive session
The therapeutic process does not necessarily end when the extended session concludes.
During the follow-up appointment, we explore your experience, discuss any changes or concerns, and consider how to integrate what you have learned into everyday life.
We may also discuss ongoing therapy, coping strategies, journaling, supportive routines, and additional treatment recommendations.
Our goal is to help you move forward with appropriate support rather than leaving you to navigate the experience alone.
Brainspotting Intensive Packages and Proposed Pricing
We recognize that everyone's therapeutic needs, availability, and treatment goals are different.
For this reason, we propose three options.
Package | Included services | Total investment |
Focused Intensive: One Day | 90-minute assessment, 3 hours of Brainspotting, 60-minute follow-up session, personalized materials | $1,480 |
Extended Intensive: Two Days | 90-minute assessment, 6 hours of Brainspotting across two days, 60-minute follow-up, personalized materials | $2,071 |
Comprehensive Intensive: Three Days | 90-minute assessment, 9 hours of Brainspotting across three days, 60-minute follow-up, personalized materials | $2,662 |
These proposed packages reflect specialized PhD-level clinical services and include preparation, direct therapeutic work, and follow-up support. We may adjust the duration and structure based on clinical appropriateness. We would discuss and agree on additional services beyond the package in advance.

How Is an Intensive Different From Traditional Weekly Therapy?
Traditional therapy offers consistent support over time, often through weekly or biweekly appointments.
Brainspotting Intensives provide longer, concentrated periods of therapeutic work, which may appeal to individuals with particular treatment goals or scheduling needs.
Neither approach is inherently better.
Some individuals benefit most from gradual, ongoing treatment. Others may find an intensive format useful as part of a broader treatment plan.
In certain cases, a Brainspotting Intensive can complement an existing relationship with another therapist. With your permission, care may be coordinated to support continuity and integration.
What Should I Expect After an Intensive?
Experiences vary.
Some individuals report feeling calmer, more reflective, or emotionally relieved. Others may notice fatigue, temporary emotional sensitivity, vivid dreams, or a need for additional rest and reflection.
Not everyone experiences noticeable changes immediately, and meaningful improvement is not guaranteed.
We recommend allowing time after your intensive for rest and avoiding unnecessary demands when possible.
Your clinician will discuss an individualized follow-up plan and how to seek additional support if needed.
Are Brainspotting Intensives Covered by Insurance?
Brainspotting Intensive packages are proposed as private-pay services.
Insurance coverage for extended-format psychotherapy varies, and package pricing should not be assumed to be reimbursable.
Before scheduling, our administrative team can discuss fees, payment arrangements, and any documentation available for insurance inquiries.
Coverage or reimbursement cannot be guaranteed.
Can Brainspotting Intensives Be Completed Virtually?
Virtual Brainspotting may be an option when clinically appropriate and when the treating clinician is authorized to provide services in the state where the client is physically located.
A confidential, uninterrupted environment and reliable technology are important.
In-person services may also be available through our North Carolina practice locations, subject to scheduling and clinician availability.
